Deweese 1-9-10

Postby bullnuts on Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:14 pm

Lew convinced me to go ice fishing yesterday. I haven't been hard water fishing in probably 8 years - too hard to get a hole big enough to launch the boat ;)
We got on the lake a little late, around 1030 or 11, if I remember correctly, and Lew took us to his honey hole. We drilled a bunch of holes and lew got bit right away. And then nothing....
The bite was really slow for most of the day, with just an occasional fish, but then just before dark we had a triple going. We ended up with 6 very nice fish, all around 16" and one of Lew's that went around 18. I brought them all home and fried half and baked the other half. I definitely prefer the baked fillets :D !
Me and Laura ate all 6 fish this weekend, and I'm ready for more!

Just to the north of Westcliffe.
We were wondering if you had moved over there Jim.

I thought that was the lake u were referring to. My daughter's house that she just built is about 5 min from there and the house I have bought and not yet moved to is about 15 min from there. Tks

It's small but a good fishery all year Bear - trout, musky, and even some smallies that are supposed to be pretty big now.

I'm not sure Jim. They've been up there for quite a while and one was netted at Pueblo a couple of years ago that was 40+. That fish supposedly came down from Deweese via Grape Creek and the Arkasas. What's your timetable on moving?

Bill - We've got a contract on a house a little SE of Westcliffe in the Wet mountains but it's contingent on selling our house here in Bayfield. House here is a good one and saleable but market is slow now so don't know the timetable. We've spent quite a bit of time in Westcliffe area and love it up there. Hope the whole thing happens this spring.
